Annie Esther (Furrer) Hickerson passed away on May 13, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 75.
On August 28, 1941, Annie was born at home to Antone and Lela Furrer in Nampa, Idaho. She grew up in Payette, Idaho with her siblings, Betty, Antoinette, Rick, and Bill. She was a championship bowler, avid tennis player, and skilled seamstress. After high school graduation, she attended the University of Idaho.
In 1963, she married James Hickerson. They spent their first months of marriage on a mountaintop lookout in Oregon. Her eyes would light up when she would tell the stories of gathering water, feeding pancakes to chipmunks, and gazing at starry nights.
When living in Richland, Washington, she became a mother to David. Her daughter, Angela, was born while the family lived in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Annie, James, and their young family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1970, where she was very involved with her children's school activities. The family would join their dear friends, the Galey family, on many hiking trips along the Continental Divide and the Grand Canyon.
She enjoyed painting, tennis, skiing, attending church, and gardening. Growing beautiful roses was a hobby close to her heart. She delighted in entertaining, and made her guests feel very welcome with her hospitality and delicious food. One could not be without a drink or snack in Annie's home.
After returning to school to earn a degree in Electronics Technology, she taught at TVI and then worked at Intel until she retired in 2003.
She became "Grammy" with the birth of her adored grandchildren, Kelsey, Christopher, and Nicholas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Rick Furrer.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty Gibson and Antoinette Gibson; brother, Bill Furrer; children, David and Katricia Hickerson, and Angela and Rod Billings; her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and many dear friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Briargate Senior Living for their compassionate and loving care of Annie in her final months.
Memorial contributions can be made to, Brookdale Briargate, Employee Appreciation Fund, 7560 Lexington Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80920.
